In December we presented YouAre to the Hispanic community. Today we present the site in English in this blog and at Flickr. We hope this is the beginning of a great relationship. Welcome to YouAre…
What’s YouAre?
YouAre is a free service to share what you are doing, your interests and your professional profile with your friends and colleagues — and anyone you want to connect with.
On YouAre, you can share what you are doing and your interests using text, video, and images in a fast and concise way using 140 characters.
You can promote your professional skills and services, and get to know more people in your online network, local area, or target audience.
You can control which updates you receive to include just real life friends, online friends, acquaintances, co-workers, colleagues, and family.
You can also import content from your YouTube, Flickr, and Del.icio.us accounts.
To give you an idea, we’re like: Twitter + Tumblr + Linkedin + Del.icio.us + our secret ingredient = YouAre.
YouAre debuts in private beta mode. Invitations to participate will be given in May June of 2008.
The concept of YouAre as we know it today was born in May of 2006. When Blogs Media completed all our pending work with clients, in September of 2007, we dedicated our time completely to the development of YouAre.

It is a domain that symbolizes the importance of the Internet. It is the perfect domain to develop a social networking site. It is a domain to be and be in. With youare.com, the potential is wide open.
Why Microblogging?
The instantaneous nature and the ease of publication that the format allows creates a before and after in the history of web applications. No longer do you have to login on a dashboard and start to write new content, that once published, you’ll have to access another website to see. With microblogging, you have it all integrated in one URL. Content editor, published content, and discussions about contents from other members of your network.
Some Technical Details
- YouAre is a social network that represents a semantic graph. Nowadays we have implemented XFN (metaweb nivel), but the goal is to create a true semantic graph. We are developing a reasoner which will check the consistency of the relations between the differents nodes (or vertex) of the semantic graph.
- Once we begin to give out invitations to participate in our Beta mode, we hope to release an API for developers.
- We are launching without SMS support, but we are in discussions with some top Spanish and European companies to support the use of SMS communication.
- We don’t want to depend on outside applications to compress links published by users which is why we have created micURL to shorten the URL’s.

Springing from the presentation of YouAre to the Hispanic community, is the meme “YouAre Music” that is made up of the publication of music with “you Are” in the title. We liked it so much we continued the meme with one of our favorite songs You Are The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me (Gladys Knight & The Pips).
